What is FOSS? – free and open-source software. With the facility now to share code and coordinate developer communities via fast internet communications, there is an incredible amount of high-quality free and open-source software available. In this blog I will document my experience installing and configuring open-source software – hopefully this will be useful to other users. I work in a scientific area, specifically geology and geophysics, so some of my examples might be of particular interest to scientists in similar areas.
